What is Loft Insulation?
Loft insulation lines the floor of your loft between the floorboards and the ceiling of the rooms below – unlike cavity wall insulation, for example, which sits in the gap in your walls. The aim of the insulation is to stop the cold air of the roof and loft space from entering your home, it also locks the heat your radiators produce into the rooms below, so it doesn’t rise and get lost to the outside world.
Heat loss through roofs is a huge problem in UK homes, causing rising energy bills and cold homes and uncomfortable spaces to live. One of the best ways to increase energy efficiency in your home is to install insulation in your loft storage space.
Key Benefits of Loft Insulation
Affordable Solution
Loft insulation can be a relatively cheap solution to energy efficiency needs. With a range of options from foil insulation to loft insulation rolls you can explore what’s best for your home with us.
Battle Energy Bills
You might worry about loft insulation cost, but overtime it pays for itself in savings on your energy bills. Loft insulation is one of the fastest ways to save money on heating your home.
Increase Your Comfort
A warmer home is a more comfortable home, especially when the winter sets in. Loft insulation is a great way to ensure your home stays comfy year round.
Quieter Home
When you live in a property long enough you get used to external noise. If you haven’t had loft insulation before, when you get some, you’ll be shocked by how much quieter your home is.
Smaller Carbon Footprint
If your home is warmer and better able to retain heat then you’ll find yourself using your heating less. Proper insulation on the loft floor directly impacts the amount of carbon emissions your home produces.
Long Term Solution
We offer a 10 year guarantee on our loft insulation installation (same as our cavity wall insulation services too), so you know it’s a home improvement designed for lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions
The amount of loft insulation required depends on the size of your loft space and what needs covering for maximum insulation effect. Our experts will be able to identify the amount you need when they conduct the initial survey.
Our quotes are all competitive and fair. With that said, we can’t tell you exactly how much loft insulation will cost you because how much insulation projects cost depends on things like:
- insulation material – foil vs insulation board vs insulation rolls, etc
- size of the loft – the more space that needs insulating the higher the cost
- ease of job – some lofts are notoriously difficult to access and that increases the amount of time we’re on site completing the work
We always provide upfront quotes before any work is agreed.
Yes, that definitely helps. Applying insulating material to the back of the loft hatch is a great way to add further insulating protection.
Loft insulation and roof insulation takes place in the same area, so it’s easy to understand why so many people confuse the two. Loft insulation is used when there is no loft conversion in place, making it likely that you use your loft for storage only. Here the insulating material is placed between the floor of the loft and the ceiling below. You don’t need your loft to be warm when it’s only used as a storage space. When insulation companies refer to roof insulation, the material is typically installed within the rafters of a property, positioned between the ceiling of a sloping roof and the tiles above. This method is commonly used in loft conversions to create a more comfortable and warmer living space. However, when using SuperFOIL, the approach differs. Instead of being fitted between the rafters, SuperFOIL is pinned directly to the rafters themselves, offering an alternative method when comparing floor and roof insulation applications.
Absolutely. Loft insulation will have a significant impact on your EPC rating. Your energy performance certificate is directly impacted by the levels of insulation in your home, so if you previously had low or no insulation, then your rating could start to creep up. It’s why schemes such as the Great British Insulation Scheme exist – to improve EPC ratings and help struggling families manage their energy bills more effectively.
Even without funding support, you’ll get the same benefits and your insulation will eventually pay for itself in energy bill savings over time.
